Canon Black Inks:
The "primary" black ink used in day to day printing is the PGI550 XL
black (pigment based) ink cartridge. Canon use a pigment based black ink
because of its print quality and longevity when used for document
printing. The CLI551XL Black Ink Cartridge is used in photo printing, and
only occasional "supplemental" printing of non photographic images.
(Note BOTH black ink cartridges need to be installed for the printer to
function.)
